Complete Story of the Martinique and St. Vincent Horrors
n.p.: L. G. Stahl, 1902. Hardcover, 7 x 9 1/2", 462 pp. Navy cloth over boards with slight corner bumping and moderate wear, gilt stamped lettering on front cover and spine, some rubbing to spine ends, oval black and white pictorial overlay with some scratching, some wear to back cover where dye is wearing thin, otherwise in very good condition. An account of the 1902 eruption of Mt. Pelee and the ensuing destruction with rather sensational writing, i.e. "Death! Death! Everywhere!" Not far from the truth however, in that the pyroclastic flows completely destroyed St. Pierre, a town of 30,000 people, within minutes of the eruption. Illustrated with photographs, maps and original drawings.
