New York: Polygraphic Company of America, (ca 1926). Paperback, 4 1/4 x 6", 48 pp., pictorial cover wraps, small ex-library sticker taped around upper spine edges, small chip out of back cover, very good condition. Angostura bitters is a mixture of water, alcohol, herbs and spices that was developed as a tonic by German Dr. Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert (died 1870), a Surgeon General in Sim‹n Bol?var's army in Venezuela, who began to sell it in 1824. First using it as a cure for hiccups and stomach ailments, it is now primarily used in drinks and cocktails. This recipe book, however, puts it in every kind of food imaginable. As the model on the cover says, "Now I use it in nearly everything."
