The address given at the opening of the Library of Congress California Centennial Exhibit by Carl I. Wheat. Mr. Wheat was a prolific writer of California History. The Historical Society of Southern California still bestows an annual Carl I. Wheat award for the best demonstration of scholarship in the Southern California Quarterly by a senior historian.
